DIY recipe, Written by: Supriya Mandrupkar
Silky smooth & healthy hair
like Rapunzel is every girls dream. Mostly in the teenage hair are in their
best possible version. But as we age, due to various factors like everyday
stress, pollution, junk food, frequent washing our hair start to lose the
sheen. Fret not friends... Here I am with a simple yet effective DIY hair mask
which will restore your crowning glory within no time. All the ingredients used
are completely natural and many of them are lying in your kitchen so read on to
know the wonder mask for healthy and silky hair.
Things you will need:
·
Henna
powder: I have used Nupur henna which is 100 % natural and also has the
goodness of 9 herbs (Hibiscus, Brahmi, Shikakai, Methi, Neem, Jatamansi, Aloe
vera, Bhringraj and Amla). All of them are superfoods for hair. If you don’t
have this, it’s ok to use any henna powder on hand. Consider adding some amla
and shikakai powder to it for added benefit.
·
Egg white of
1 egg
·
Juice of
half lemon
·
1 tablespoon
olive oil
·
1 teaspoon
castor oil
·
5-6 drops of
rosemary essential oil (Optional)
·
4-5 drops of
cidarwood essential oil (Optional)
·
1 tablespoon
honey
·
1 tablespoon
aloe vera gel (Store brought or fresh leaf, whatever is easy to get)
Procedure:
1.
First take
henna powder according to your hair length. I have used 50 gram packet for my
medium length hair. Soak the henna powder overnight. Use just sufficient water
to wet the powder. We will adjust the consistency after adding all other
ingredients.
2.
In the
morning, add one egg white, juice of half lemon, olive and castor oil and
rosemary and cidarwood essential oil to the soaked henna and mix well. You can
use a fork to mix it well.
3.
Adjust the
consistency of the mask to a smooth non runny texture using aloe vera gel and
finally add a tablespoon of honey.
4.
Final mask
should look creamy and smooth like a cake batter. This way it spreads evenly on
hair.
5.
Now apply
the mask on your hair starting from roots and covering all strands. You can use
hair dye brush or just apply with your fingers. (If you are using your hands to
apply the mask, make sure to apply some coconut oil to your hands before and
wash your hands with soap and rub a lemon slice afterwards. This will prevent
the henna from staining your hands) And better apply on small sections of hair
and arrange hair in a high bun.
6.
Wear a
shower cap if you want and let the hair soak all the goodness for about an hour
or two. Mask should not dry completely
on hair.
7.
Rinse with
plain water, shampoo using a mild sulphate free shampoo and condition as usual.
8.
Let the hair
air dry and enjoy luscious silky and shiny hair with beautiful burgundy hues.
This henna
gloss is extremely effective for taming freezy dry hair. Henna coats the hair
and seals the cuticle. The oils in the mask nourish the hair shaft and impart
the shine. The essential oil blend stimulates the scalp and promotes healthy
hair growth. Lemon eliminates dandruff and aloe vera soothes the scalp. Honey
hydrates the hair making them soft and supple. This mask removes the build-up
from the scalp and gives a cooling sensation which refreshes and rejuvenates
hair in summers. I personally use this mask once a month and it keeps my hair
in pink of health with nice shine and also improves the texture of hair.
I strongly
recommend you all to try this mask once and see the wonders.
Hope you
